Gained independence from Spain during the Iberian Revolution when the King, fleeing the revolutionaries, landed in what was then called New Spain.
To prevent a repeat of the events in Europe, Mexico has adopted a system of government which though still a monarchy, is placed under a king with limited power. Unlike its URP equivalent (the estates-general), the Mexican cortes still maintain a separate religious chamber of deliberation although its powers have been curbed more and more starting in the early 20th century.
Mexico occupies the southernmost part of North America. It shares a border with the URP and with Central America.
