Khuzby is a City-State in former Ohio, founded by immigrant Abeer Khuz.

History[]

Abeer Khuz was originally a Kurd, a destitute man in Iran. He became determined to improve his life. So instead of living in poverty, he got a job in Turkey, and made enough money to move the the USA. In the State of Ohio, he bought a farm of about 15 acres, which he worked diligently as ever. The spitting image of the American Dream.

But then the Great Nuclear War happened. To the North he saw the clouds from the strikes of Fort Wayne, Toledo, and Cincinnati, though was surprised not to see a strike on Columbus.

Over the next years, he began building a wall around his farm, in order to keep out animals and raiders. Unable to create mortar, he invents a way to create perfectly fitting blocks that required none.

Word of Khuz's innovative mortar-less technique gets around and people come to him to learn from him. As more people arrive he is able to further hone his wall-building techniques and leave the farming to other people. Years later, the initial wall surrounding his farm is left and is used as walls for the central district (to be named Abeer District in 1989) for the majority of Khuz's followers and new, more expansive walls were erected by Khuz's new Masonry Guild. By this time, the year is 1975. After the secondary wall was built, the population began to swell, as the walls provided relative safety, and a place to safely start new businesses. Many people came together to form new guilds, such as the Apiary's Guild, Brewer's Guild, and Carpenter's Guild. As social structure began to complicate, eventually it was decided to elect a proper Mayor, which Abeer Khuz won by a landslide. Khuz ordered guilds to produce a representative, so that Business Deals could be arbitrated and Interpersonal Contracts between private Individuals and Guilds could be written with supervision.

In 2000, Khuzby joined the Great Lakes Region Union in an official capacity, adopting international trade law and the Note/Shilling decimal currency system. Joining the GLRU had many implications, mainly the incorporation of the Columbus Route into economic politics, as well as the way in which Khuzby traded. A major census was taken, resulting in knowledge of the high population density and religious diversity of the city. Religions practiced openly include Catholicism, Lutheranism, Methodism, Jovism, and even a minority of Orisha and other Folk Practitioners. In addition, many smaller, more bureaucratic changes took place including the adoption of a Civil Flag.

Economy[]

Khuzby ships stone through the Belt, though does not ship it through the poor infrastructure of the south. In other ways however, it is the gateway to the south, and Belt goods often pass through Khuzby on their way to Kentuck and the Insular States.

In the beginning years, Khuzby used pennies as currency, as the pennies were made of pure copper. They were often referred to as Khuzby Coppers, and these pennies would be marked with a strict supply kept in order to avoid inflation. After joining the GLRU, it adopted the Note/Shilling system, though many still keep coppers, for fear of a GLRU collapse.
