The Khanate of Aralia is a Siberian protectorate located in the area surrounding the Aral Sea.
The area around the Aral Sea was a desolate one, as people were leaving due to the lack of fertile land and because of receding waters of the sea. A majority of the population was Karakalpak.
The area of the Khanate of Aralia was never hit by any missiles, but a little nuclear contamination arrived into the area, but because of favorable winds, there were no proven cases of fallout in the area. However, government in the area quickly collapsed, but local government from the cities of Aral and Mo'ynoq acted swiftly to maintain control.
For a few months, the two city-states of Aral and Mo'ynoq cooperated and traded, using the most of the little resources they had. The khan of Aral (Abdul Rahim, who claimed that he was the descendent of the rulers of the Pre-Soviet Khanate of Khiva) decided that the two cities would be much stronger if they were one, and that trade would not have to be international. As a result, Abdul Rahim asked Rammad Prasad, the king of Mo'ynoq to join him. Prasad refused. Angered, king Rahim organized a military force of about 8,000, demanding the city of Mo'ynoq to become part of the city-state of Aralia. Prasad responded to the threat, forming a military force of 5,000 to fight back. The two city's armies fought for 3 days, launching RPGs at one another. Luckily, only 17 civilians died from either side. However, Aralia had suffered 3,000 deaths. Under 100 Mo'ynoq soldiers survived.
After the war concluded, Abdul Rahim advanced into the city of Mo'ynoq, and made a speech to the citizens of the city, telling them that they were now part of the Khanate of Aralia, and that he, Abdul Rahim, was their Khan. He promised food and water to the citizens in exchange for hard work. The citizens were unsure of the new leader, but they knew they had no choice in the matter. After the war,Sunni Islam became the official religion of Aralia and all atheists were converted to Islam or killed in a period called "The Great Cleansing".
During the months that followed the formation of the Khanate, little happened. The population grew slowly as people in the area moved towards the nation, knowing there was nothing else for hundreds of miles. However, the population skyrocketed in the summer that followed.
In the summer of 1984, temperatures became extremely high. People stayed at home or in the sea, but many feared that they would starve or dehydrate. In fact, 10% of the population did. However, in the end of the summer, as temperatures began to come back to normal, the sea, for the first time ever, began to expand. The sources of the rivers feeding the Aral Sea were melting extremely fast, and as a result much more water came into the sea. By the end of 1984, the sea was back to the original levels it was at.
While the sea regrew, people from miles away were immigrating to the cities of the Khanate, desperate for water. As a result, populations reached near their current ones. The lands became fertile, and people thrived. Arabic became the third official language in 1987.
The original territory of the Khanate of Aralia was quite small, containing only the immediate area around Aral and Mo'ynoq. However, as the population grew, farmlands and such took up more and more space until the Khanate surrounded the entire sea. The nearby city of Nukus, which had no strong organization, was made part of the Khanate in order to make the city stable and more populated.
In 2010, the Khanate, which completely surrounded the Aral Sea, met with another organised civilization for the first time since before doomsday. Explorer from Socialist Siberia met with the khan, and he was explained of what had happened to the world since Doomsday. Later, he was informed that Siberian military would come over to take over the land of the khan, because he was on former Soviet Union, and hence regarded as a legitimate part of Socialist Siberia. Abdul Rahim was enraged at the idea, saying that he was the rightful khan of his lands, and that no one was to take it from him.
After Socialist Siberian plans were exposed to the public, angered Aralians captured the Siberian explorers, as to make it clear that the Khanate was not to be pushed around. As a result, Socialist Siberia announced plans to invade the Khanate, but Rahim responded saying that the kidnappers did not represent the Knanate.
Main article: War of Aralia
Finally, on the 7th of January, Siberia declared war on the Khanate as to end all possible issues with it. The war was quick, and Aralia fell rapidly, although the Khan was still allowed to remain the head of state for now, as to assure that the area remains without rebellion.
After the USSR occupied Aralia, contrary to what many thought would happen, Aralia continued to exist, though now under heavy Siberian control. In the last two years, heavy reforms have been made, making the country closely resemble the USSR in terms of their laws. A new constitution was drafted and the country is now a Khanate practically only in name, as the Khan has lost a considerable amount of his power, as the newly created Supreme Council creates and enforces all laws.
The council is supervised by the USSR and they have a right to veto any new laws they deem to not be adequate. As a Siberian protectorate and part of the CSTO, it is also represented globally by that country, having little say in the matter. Most citizens, however, have not revolted, as the USSR keeps them well protected as well as supplied by Siberian exports.
Aralia is also considering expansion to the east, with Siberian support. The country has succeeded in expanding to Kazalinsk, the ultimate goal being that the two countries will meet in Nikolskiy one day.
The economy is still very much dependent on fisheries, but is starting to support itself with cotton, rice and melons. Since 2010, most of the cotton it makes is exported into the USSR which is also helping in the construction of a textile plant in the country.
The country houses the The State Art Museum of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, named after I.V. Savitsky, or simply the Nukus Museum of Art located in Nukus. Opened in 1966, the museum houses a collection of over 82,000 items, ranging from antiquities from Khorezm to Karakalpak folk art, Uzbek fine art and, uniquely, the second largest collection of Russian avant-garde in the world. Some works were destroyed during the chaos after Doomsday, but most remained intact, guarded by the museum's caretakers until Nukus became a part of Aralia, the Khan taking a special interest in the art there.
The importance of the museum was not lost on the Siberians, who have taken it upon themselves to preserve the works of art.
Currently, the military has 14,000 people actively serving, most of which were recruited after the war with Siberia, as the majority of its armed forces were annihilated in the war with Siberia. The country has no Air Force at all, air support being currently provided by the USSR. They have no official Navy to speak of, although most of the larger fishing boats were employed by the Army during the war.
Their military uses mostly equipment from before Doomsday, although the USSR has stepped in and provided them with new weapons as well. The majority of Siberian forces are stationed on Vozrozhdeniya Island, having taken over the testing sites of the former Soviet Union's Microbiological Warfare Group. It is currently being supervised by the Biopreparat agency, as well as the KGB.
Aralia is a member of the CSTO. It is also a Siberian protectorate and is governed heavily by the policies that country sets out for it and there are still a lot of troops in the country that are permanently stationed there.
