The Kentucky War was a military conflict fought between the Confederate States and its allies against the United States after the U.S. state of Kentucky declared its independence from the Americans on March 1, 1885. The United States refused to recognize Kentucky as independent and moved its troops to occupy the state. On March 3, the Confederate States announced that it would intervene in favor of the Kentuckians, bringing the Confederates and Americans to a state of war again.

President John Reagan soon introduced a plan to partially abolish slavery by promising slaves their freedom if they joined the Confederate Armed Forces. This saw to the Confederate military expanding with the amount of black soldiers, and also opened the Confederacy to an alliance with the United Kingdom and France. t
