[edit] History

[edit] Doomsday

Kazakhstan was hit with numerous nuclear warheads and most of the Soviet Republic quickly descended into chaos. However, remaining Soviet officials in the center of the Republic which was not hit as hard, quickly organized themselves and regained contact with surviving Soviet officials in the east. The only organized regions that were left were Karagandy, Akmola and Almaty.

[edit] Post-Doomsday

The first years after Doomsday were the hardest. Finding homes for refugees was a nearly impossible task and the Provisional Republic was under martial law through much of this time. The 131st Motor Rifle Division of the 36th Army was the one that helped through these times and is still stationed in the Republic.

Aliyev enacted swift reforms and started concentrating most of the Siberian agriculture in Kazakhstan making it into the new breadbasket of the Union, as well as building a lot of roads and railways to make travel easier. The north eastern parts of Kazakhstan that were destroyed,Pavlodar, East and North Kazakhstan were designated as closed zones and except trains and government aproved vehicles, no one is allowed to enter.

[edit] Demographics

Because of the extreme influx of people, the Kazakh Republic has a Russian majority, who account for 54% of the population. The Kazakhs account for 37% of the population while the rest are a mixture of all the other diverse people of the USSR.

[edit] Current situation

The Republic has enjoyed continuous stability and security, as it is the lifeline of the Socialist Union, accounting for around 40% of Soviet agriculture production.
