Karl von Habsburg (1961- ) is the current heir to the throne of Germany and de facto regent.
Karl von Hapsburg was born in 1961 as 6th child and the first son of Otto von Hapsburg, head of the exiled Austro-Hungarian imperial family of Hapsburg.
When his father Otto was called to Germany to become Emperor Otto I of the Germans, Karl became Crown prince. Karl had taken some of his, then 85 years old, father's symbolic functions after he produced a heir to the throne in 1997.
