John Edward Jones III (born June 13, 1955) is an American lawyer and politician, and is the current governor of the Provisional Government of Pennsylvania at Reading.
Biography
Pre-Doomsday
Jones was born in 1955 in Pottsville, Pennsylvania and raised in Orwigsburg, Pennsylvania, where he attended Blue Mountain High School. He graduated high school from Mercersburg Academy. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Dickinson College in 1977 and law degreefrom Dickinson School of Law in 1980. At that time, the school was unaffiliated with Pennsylvania State University.
After clerking for Guy A. Bowe, the president-county judge for Schuylkill County from 1980 to 1983, Jones joined the law firm of Dolbin & Cori. When he was made a partner, the name of the firm was changed to Dolbin, Cori & Jones.
Doomsday
Jones was in his home when the first alarms of Doomsday rang through the county. He made his way to a fallout shelter, where he felt the Soviet nukes detonate in Harrisburg and Philadelphia. After waiting for days in the dark shelter, he and fellow survivors walked into a very different world, one where nuclear war had just occurred.
In the general post-Doomsday chaos, he helped guide the refugees from the nuked cities to the refugee areas of the surviving cities and joined the provisional government in Reading soon after.
Political Career
In the 1992 elections, Jones ran as a Republican representative of Pottsville to the Reading Provisional General Assembly and got a seat. By 2007, he was offered a chair in the Reading Supreme Court, which he accepted, although it meant that he would have to let go of his seat in the House of Representatives.
During the Gubernatorial Crisis of 2010, Jones was presented as a "compromise candidate", as Reading was divided between former Lieutenant General Rocky Colavito and Lebanon mayor Bob Anspach. He received an astounding 87.9% of the votes under the independent banner, and he was sworn in on February 28, 2011.
Foreign Policy
Jones is an advocate of increased contact with other survivor states. Under his administration, Reading has come in contact with lots of survivors, chief of them the provisional state governments in State College and North Pennsylvania. Since State College has the legitimate claim, Jones has pushed forward legislation for possible reintegration. However, this was met with opposition as many people believed that Reading had done well enough on its own. Jones finally caved in and agreed to a referendum in which the question of admittance or independence would be decided.
Jones is open to friendly contact, and jovially meets people who come in peace. However, when it comes to raiders like those that took over Allentown, he is not as cordial. That is considered to be one of the main factors in why he decided to invade Allentown and install a democratically elected government.
Family
Jones has a wife named Beth Ann, whom he married in 1982, a year before Doomsday, a daughter named Meghan and son John IV.
