John Davison "Jay" Rockefeller IV is an American politician from the state of New York. Rockefeller is generally regarded as the de facto leader of the Rockefeller Republicans along with his uncle, former United States Senator from New York, David Rockefeller.

Initially hesitant in entering the political arena, Rockefeller eventually decided to make a run for the Senate after encouragement from his uncle, David Rockefeller (who was also a Senator from New York). After winning the Republican nomination against Conservative Republican Al D'Amato, Rockefeller went on to defeat Senator Mark J. Green (who had been appointed by Governor Hugh Carey following Jacob Javits' death in 1986) in a landslide.

After serving more than 20 years in the Senate, Rockefeller announced that he would not seek reelection in 2016.
