Janet Helen Clark (née Romano; born December 8, 1946) is a retired American politician and diplomat who served as Secretary of State from 2001-2005 in President Stephen Martin's second term. She had previously served as a U.S. Representative for Michigan's 2nd District as a moderate Nationalist since 1993 and was regarded as a compromise candidate following controversies over the Martin administration's wars in Scotland and Cyrene. After leaving the State Department in 2005, Clark has headed the Foreign Policy Institute in Washington.
