James Taylor Scott (October 1, 1843 - December 14, 1917) was an American business tycoon, best known as the founder and magnate of Scott Shipping, a commercial trust that shipped almost 45% of American trade overseas by 1900. A Presidential hopeful in 1900 and regarded as a potential protege of John D. Rockefeller, Scott was defeated by five votes on the 441st ballot at the 1900 Democratic Convention, losing to Alan Cordyne, and he became a Nationalist in the later years of his life.
