James Ryan Hadley (born October 14, 1939) is a retired American actor and philanthropist with a forty-year career in Hollywood, best known for playing tough guy roles and for his breakthrough role as Flick in Jack Kennedy's Oahu. He appeared in blockbusters such as Snake, Philly Original, The Young and the Proud and Vicious, for which he received his only Academy Award nomination. Regarded as a sex symbol, Hadley was one of the most marketable movie stars in the world during the late 1970's and the 1980's, when he moved into more serious roles. In 2001, he retired from acting after appearing in Augustus as Pompey. A well-known Democrat, Hadley has spent significant time campaigning for Democratic candidates, donating to charities and considered briefly running for California state office. He was a longtime friend of former California Senator Steven Spielberg.
