Coat of arms

Jakarta is the capital of Indonesia and formerly (as Batavia) the Dutch East Indies. It was founded as Jayakarta by prince Fatahillah of Demak in 1527, which was conquered by the Dutch in 1619 and replaced by their settlement Batavia.

Because of Global Warming, the city is more and more threatened to sink in the seas, which is why the Indonesian government thinks about relocating the capital.
