Italia refers to the geographical region of the Italica Peninsula and the area south of the Alps. Culturally the terms is restricted to the region in the central and northern peninsula, sometimes including also Helvetia.

Some people preferred to call Greater Helvetia the territories of Italia plus Helvetia, and even central Gaul, as those territories were once controlled by the Helvetians.

  1. Genoese
  2. Italian
  3. Venetian

Some times the following languages are counted as Italic, mainly in opposition to Hispanic romances:

  1. Central-Gaulian
  2. Helvetian
