The Republic of Ireland is an island nation located in the British Isles. It is considered the most powerful nation on the isles.
Ireland gained independence from the United Kingdom after the Great War. Although a poor and struggling nation at first, it began to recover and built infrastructure. However, in 1939 the nation was invaded very quickly by the United Kingdom, sparking the Second World War. Irish citizens faced genocide from the British regime. It was in 1942 that French-funded soldiers managed to rise up against the retreating British troops, occupying Northern Ireland as well.
Ireland received large reparations from the Osborne Conference after the defeat of Britain, as well as Northern Ireland. After the war, Ireland distanced itself from the communist and capitalist struggles, remaining democratic. The economy experienced a boom in the 1980's and 90's, considerably raising Ireland's quality of life.
During the British Civil War, Ireland experienced riots in Belfast and several other areas that were once British. These were quickly silenced and as a result of the war, Ireland is now the most powerful nation on the British Isles.
In recent years, Ireland has used its influence on mainland Britain to propose a Celtic Union between the several Celtic States. Both Cornwall and North Wales have expressed an interest.
