Ireland, officially the United Republic of Ireland, is a European country located on the island that shares its same name. Ireland officially includes the southern three-fourths of the island, and many nations recognize its claim to the disputed Northern Ireland, also known as Ulster locally.
Ireland was part of the British Empire, and later the UBPR, until 1990, when it became the first UBPR constituent state to declare its independence. What followed was a 12-year conflict, first with the UBPR and later a civil war from 1992-2002 in the disputed north, which is claimed by Ireland and Britain, as well as the unrecognized Independent Republic of Ulster. Ireland is currently a Parliamentary Republic, with a weak President and empowered legislature, called the Dail Eireann.
