The Indochinese Union (more commonly called simply Indochina) is a multiethnic country in Southeast Asia. It was formely a collection of Gallican oversea departments. Although fully integrated in the republic and, in theory, enjoying the same legal rights as other citizens, many Indochineses felt that in practice they were shut out of the local political sphere.
Starting in the early 1930s, a series of strikes and demonstration tried to achieve greater autonomy or even independence. To try and remedy to the situation, the government transfered some powers to a local assembly but was then faced with local officials that sided with the insurgents. After an escalation of violence, the Gallican government agreed to negotiate independence.
