The 1982 Indian general election saw the INC lose seats but still win a plurality.

The 1982 election was brought about when the Communist Party supported a Muslim League vote of confidence in the government, causing its fall.

Whilst the INC lost more than 20 seats it continued in government as a minority government receiving support from Akali Dal.
