Kaba
Ground Rules are set in the constitution. You may simulate the vote of a nation next to you, not specifically previous vassals. Otherwise, the Caliph will act like a moderator.

DME's Creation and Constitutional Ratification.

Premise:

  • We all know.

Arguments For:

  • Unification of Muslim States

Argument Against:

  • All vassals will be lost, on the concept that all Muslims are equal. This will hurt Aq Qoyunlu the most.

Votes:

  • Aq Qoyunlu<FOR>

  • Circassia <FOR>
  • Dulkadir <FOR>
  • Egypt <FOR>
  • Ramazan <FOR>

Yemen Joining

Premise: Yemen will only join if eastern Yemen becomes a state. Argument for: Yemen will join, giving us a cultural boost. Argument against: The Mamluks have to give up territory. Votes:

  • Hafsids <FOR>
  • Oman <FOR>
  • Shaybah <FOR>
  • Ramazan <FOR>
  • Yemen <FOR>

Resolution: Bill is passed with a unanimous vote.

Cleansing Georgia

Premise: Georgia is full of Christians who do not speak any of the official languages. The proposal is for there to be mass genocide and the treating of Christian Georgians as second class.

Argument For: Georgia will fully integrate into the Empire and there will be order in Georgia, with no revolts. This would allow Georgia to start anew and for us to actually be able to control it. This will be highly effective as assimilation rates would be off the roof.

Argument Against: The techniques used will be slightly brutal. In the midst, there is a small chance the Georgians will revolt. It also goes against a lot of Islamic law.

Votes:

  • Circassia <FOR>
  • Crimea <FOR>
  • Dulkadir <FOR>
  • Egypt <AGAINST>
  • Georgia <AGAINST>
  • Granada <FOR>
  • Hafsids <FOR>

Resolution: 9/14 votes for the bill. 5/14 were against the bill. The vote for is 64%. The vote against is 35%. By the power vested in the treaty which has made the Courte, the Cleansing of Georgia shall not happen.

Alliance With Novgorod

Premise: Novgorod wants an alliance with the DME...

Argument For: If we accept we will have a strong European ally that hates the Catholic Christendom as much as we do. Also, we will gain much land and influence in the Golden Khanate.

Argument Against: The are Orthodox.

Votes:

  • Circassia <FOR>
  • Dulkadir <AGAINST>
  • Georgia <FOR>
  • Oman <AGAINST> (They are non-Muslim infidels!)
  • Qoyunlu <AGAINST>
  • Ramazan <AGAINST>
  • Shaybah <AGAINST>
  • Ottomans <FOR>
  • Wallachia <FOR>
  • Malmuks <FOR>

Resolution: Eh. At the time it was voted upon it wouldn't have passed, too many against.

The invasion of Sind

Premise: Some high ranking officials in the Caliphate such as the Provincial governments of Deccan, Koli and Gujarat want to invade Sind as part of the Caliphate's efforts to become one continuous land empire.

Arguments for: If we take over Sind, we can then stage a two front invasion of the Timurids making that war much easier. Furthermore when we establish the land link between the Indian and Middle Eastern provinces trade will be easier and we will have more people to tax and more natural resources to mine.

Arguments against: Innocent people may be killed, the Sindi people may revolt against our rule, Sind may defeat us in war, our soldiers will be killed, hippies will get annoyed, war is costly, we will have to rebuild Sind after the war is over and if we lose then who knows what we will have to give Sind as war reparations.

Votes:

  • Koli <FOR>
  • Deccan <FOR>
  • Gujarat <FOR>
  • Oman <FOR>
  • Shaybah <FOR>
  • Hadramaut <FOR>
  • Yemen <FOR>
  • Hijaz <FOR>

  • Candar <FOR>
  • Georgia <NEUTRAL>
  • Circassia <NEUTRAL>
  • West Qoyunlu <NEUTRAL>
  • Syria <AGAINST>
  • Palestine <AGAINST>

Resolution: The invasion of Sind shall go ahead! Someone should calculate the percent and place it here, just for official and statistics.

The invasion of the Timurids

Premise: A two front invasion of the Timurid-held territory in central Asia. Gujarat, Persia and East Qoyunlu will be able to launch simultaneous land invasions as part of a two front war against the Timurids. We would also be the stronger naval power so we could easily supply our armies via the coastline too. Two or three provinces should be carved out of the Timurid territory should be win this war, as this would please the Timurid populace as they would have a fair amount of autonomy.

Arguments for: The Timurids are currently separating the two sections of the Caliphate (Middle East and India). If we invade and take over the Timurid land then we would be one large continuous land empire. Thus inter-caliphate trade would be made easier between provinces and we would also gain control over the various resources in Timurid territory. We can also spread Islam to this deprived region.

Arguments against: Innocent people may be killed. The Timurids may revolt against our rule. The Timurids may defeat us in war. Our soldiers will be killed. War is costly. We will have a lot of work to do integrating such a large area like the Timurid territories into the Caliphate.

Votes:

  • Koli <FOR>
  • Deccan <FOR>
  • Gujarat <FOR>
  • Oman <FOR>
  • Shaybah <FOR>
  • Nejd <FOR>

  • Karaman <FOR>
  • Persia <NEUTRAL>
  • Egypt <FOR>
  • Syria <FOR>
  • Palestine <FOR>
  • Hadramwt <FOR>
  • Yemen <FOR>

Resolution: The Timurids shall be invaded and their lands will become Caliphate provinces.

War with Byzantium

Premise: Byzantium has continuously ignored Rumelian request to stop military build up. Th proposal is to start a war with Byzantium. Two States would be formed out of their territory: The peninsula and Western Thrace/Macedonia.

Argument For: We get Greater Control over the Black Sea. We may retake Qustantaniyye and that said, control the trade throughout the straits.

Argument Against: We have to fight the HRE, which might destabilise the economy.

Votes:

  • West Qoyunlu <FOR>
  • East Qoyunlu <FOR>
  • Iraq <FOR>
  • Persia <FOR>
  • Dulkadir <FOR>
  • Ramazan <FOR>
  • Karaman <FOR>

  • Hijaz <FOR>
  • Palestine <AGAINST>
  • Syria <AGAINST>
  • Rumelia <FOR> (assuming)
  • Wallachia <FOR> (assuming)
  • Anatolia <FOR> (assuming)

Resolution: 16/25 (68%) voted for the proposal. 8/15 (32%) voted against the proposal. By the powers invested in the treaty of Muslims, and with the blessing of the most wise Caliph, war be with Byzantium!

So, may I, the Caliph, declare war on Byzantium in my post, or not? I must know before I post.

Vote for the new Caliph

Okay, let's vote for the new Caliph to succeed Marwan III and then once we have decided, we will re-enact this vote and succession in game. Each player can put forward one candidate to be elected. Please give your candidate a name, a back-story and reasons why you should or shouldn't vote for them. Once we have our candidates voting shall commence. Also note that this isn't the Mahdi Caliph, that is the next Caliph (or one after this one).

Yazid IV

Yazid is the close advisor and cousin to Caliph Marwan III, so has experience in ruling the Caliphate. Yazid is also a general for the Caliphate armies in Hejaz. He is an autocrat ruler but a firm upholder of the faith, and he'd do much to expand the Caliphate's influence.

Muhammad Ibn Marwan

Muhammad is the son of the Caliph Marwan III. In 1500, he is 24 years of age. He has been ruling West Qoyunlu, since he was ten, and has loads of experience with ruling provinces, and due to him being personally being involved in the Great Holy War, is a great leader of armies. He does however have two orthodox wives, which is allowed, but might make him seem weird to some Muslims. He also sets us up for the Mahdi scenario, since he is to have a son by the name Muhammad, who will in turn have two sons by the name Muhammad. Muhammad can speak Turke, Common Turkish, Persian, Arabic, and Russian (learned from his wives). He is currently building a memorial to one of the founders of the Caliphate, Uzun Hassan, his uncle. Also, considering that he is the son of Marwan III, he is related to the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).

Votes

Why count? It's clear that Muhammad wins! May he be a wonderful Caliph!

Muhammad got 18 votes and Yazid got seven. So a clear majority of the 25 votes cast. Muhammad will be the new Caliph.

Move Capitol to Constantinople

The Rumelian Sultan offers his great city to be the new capitol of the Caliphate.

Argument For

It is a great trade and military center as well as being very easy to defend. It is also a very beautiful city for the Caliph to see as well as for foreign Kings and Diplomats to view, helping them view as a serious and wealthy power.

Argument Against

It is the causing reason for several wars. It is wanted by other nations who are willing to fight for it. Very far away from some places of the Caliphate (e.g. India), it is not a holy city like Mecca, and it is more at risk to attack my foreign enemies. There are also costs involved in moving the capital too, so by not moving we save money.

Construction of a Transnational Road

Premise: Rumelia, Anatolia, Candar, and Wallachia suggest we build a large system of national highways to connect the nation. Each province would pay for the section within their borders.

Arguments For: Wallachia, Candar, Rumelia, and Anatolia have one connecting all four provinces and it paid for itself within a year. It greatly eases moving troops from province to province, and it would also increase trade and allow goods from one end of the Caliphate to reach the other faster.

Argument Against: would cost a bit of money, (if anyone can think of any other cons put them here.)

Establish Colonies in the New World and OTL Australia

Premise: Other nations are building empires globally, and will soon outnumber us in several decades due to the unlimited land in the New World and Australia, allowing huge population growth.

Arguments For: The Christian colonies are growing exponentially, and we cannot leave another three continents to the Christians, Allah's will must be spread around the world, or else in future wars we will lose, and they will not be kind to us. Also, there are riches in these three lands: fur, and thousands of natives to convert to the true Muslim faith. We must do it to preserve ourselves and ensure our national legacy, and even greater, the True Faith. It will provide us with money after the colonies are fully functional, giving us a new source of revenue.

Arguments Against: Will cost money. It will cause temporary unwanted conflict with the Christians.

Discussion about Caliphate colonies

Well, the Caliphate has four colonies currently, two by Egypt and two by Oman. They are both in Africa, too. However, the reason why we aren't going to establish colonies in the Americas is because it isn't the efficient use of our resources. We are already a huge Empire with a large abundance of resources and land, so we don't really need to set up colonies to do this. Secondly, it would be very expensive to do so: that money could be better spent on keeping control over the territories we have already conquered for one. Thirdly, the lines of communication would be spread out very thin and liable to pirate attacks. Fourthly, we can expand into Europe, Asia or Africa for much less. Fifthly, Australia I intend for us to colonize but it is too early to think about currently and the Caliphate will be broken up by the time we are allowed to expand into Australia. And finally, the Caliphate setting up colonies in the Americas is fairly implausible, as we have much closer immediate areas for us to expand into. These are the same sort of reasons why the Ottomans didn't colonize the Americas in OTL. VonGlusenburg (talk to Von!) 17:50, November 15, 2012 (UTC)

Intervention in the Ethiopia-Adal war and invading Ethiopia

Premise: Our Muslim ally to the south of our Caliphate, the Sultanate of Adal is under attack from Ethiopia.

Arguments For: Protect our ally Adal, stop aggressive Ethiopian expansion, spread Islam to Ethiopia, bring peace to that region and protect ourselves from invasions from the south.

Arguments Against: War is bad and costly, our enemies might strike while our backs are turned.

Votes:

  • Koli <NEUTRAL>
  • Deccan <FOR>
  • Gujarat <NEUTRAL>
  • Nejd <AGAINST>
  • Shaybah <FOR>
  • Oman <FOR>
  • Anatolia <FOR>
  • Rumelia <FOR>
  • Wallachia <FOR>
  • Candar <FOR>

Outcome: Ethiopia withdrew from Adal before we could get involved. If Ethiopia attack Adal again, the Caliphate will be ready to fight them off fully (e.g. full war against Ethiopia).

The Next Caliph

Okay so the next Caliph is just around the corner, so I figure we should get deciding on who the next Caliph is going to be. Remember this Caliph's reign will be somewhat long (15-20 years) and it won't be very prosperous, heck fairly chaotic. VonGlusenburg (talk to Von!) 02:59, November 20, 2012 (UTC)

I'm having the child be born this year, as it seems we need a heir soon. 24.253.221.71 00:17, November 21, 2012 (UTC)

Perhaps we have him rule as a child so he has a bunch of advisers/regents ruling the country ineffectively and corruptly. That's why the Caliphate hits rough times and then the small civil war starts, which sees the Mahdi winning. VonGlusenburg (talk to Von!) 14:05, November 24, 2012 (UTC)

Anyway, in 1537 Caliph Muhammad ibn Marwan will die and his 9 year old son, Muhammad ibn Muhammad, will become Caliph. However due to his young age, advisers, regents and other such bureaucrats will effectively rule the country. However there rule will be corrupt and inefficient, and a lot of problems will come to the Caliphate. A small power vaccum will ensue, which will be filled as the Mahdi, Muhammad bin Muhamman bin Muhammad, comes to power. VonGlusenburg (talk to Von!) 03:08, November 25, 2012 (UTC)

Yeah. The Mahdi will be born when Muhammad is 10 (which will also give his wives influence, hence, less effective). At the end of his rule he will be 16-21. Saamwiil, the Humble 03:40, November 25, 2012 (UTC)

War with HRE

Premise: The HRE is declaring war on Bavarian the first Kappelist state, and the proposal is to go ahead and defend them.

Arguments For: The HRE is weak and divided, and it is a good time to pounce on this. Also, if we win it would bring more land under Muslim control. If we win the HRE would become weaker and therefore easier to invade once the Mahdiate comes around.

Argument Against: Would cost money, and we're helping a Christian state.

Form an Alliance with the Incan Empire

Premise: The Inca have just revolted and regained their independence from the Christian kingdom of the Neapolitans. They will need a strong ally to keep from being retaken.

Argument For: If we do gain the Inca as an ally, we would then have a large and potentially powerful nation as an ally against the Christians. The Incas hate the Christians as much as we do, and only want to stay free of there wrath and freely exercise there independence and religion, and as Muslim law dictates, we should help them do just that. When modernized and brought to its full potential, the Incan Empire will be our greatest ally and even a greater trade partner.

Argument Against: It may anger the Neoplitans and there annoying little Pope. May also cost some money to help modernize the Inca.

This alliance is quite devoid of reality, we've never even been to the western coast of the Americas so how do we even know this nation exists? We only know via rumour and news from Europe so that, coupled with there being no need to (we're invading Europe in a decade), this shouldn't happen ~Von.
Von, we can still do this and as I recall we vote on these things. Dean
No we can't its implausible. Besides we have bigger fish to fry ~Von.
