- POD Egyptian historian from the OTL 1950’s exploring ancient catacombs falls through time to ptolemaic Egypt ~40 BCE, only after several years resolving to prevent its collapse.
- POD Italian military engineer from the OTL 2030’s interferes with a top secret project, falling through time to ~30BCE. He struggles but was determined almost immediately to prevent Rome’s collapse.
~10 BCE The Ptolemaic Egypt’s Pharaoh, advised by the innocuous historian, now controls all of Anatolia, and is having success in pushing the Romans out of Greece.
9BCE The enigmatic engineer calling himself Carico rises and leads armies against the Egyptians for Rome, fighting with primitive flying machines and swiftly moving troops with his invention of the locomotive.
3BCE Carico-led campaigns against the Egyptians are outstanding. Ptolemaic Egypt is first cut in half and then conquered by 3CE.
15-19CE First Roman Civil War over imperial succession, Carico becomes Caesar and makes a number of difficult reforms, his successors helping in advancing Roman knowledge as well as territory.
20-698 General Roman expansion and consolidations.
699 Roman expeditions to the west discovers the Americas.
710 Rome begins colonizing North America.
750’s Roman contact with the Tang Chinese, friendly diplomatic relations by the 780’s.
833 Chinese invention of gunpowder.
847-851 Miasmata plague strikes both China and Rome, North American and eastern provinces revolt, formation of the Commonwealth of Terranova in North America.
850 Romans, learning of gunpowder from the Chinese, develop cannons.
887-897 (third) Roman Civil War, Rome’s navy becomes more professional and serious.
897-981 Roman Recovery and expansions in Asia and Africa.
958 Use of gunpowder rockets in Roman warfare in Nubia, formation of the Japanese Empire and its aggressive expansion.
980 Contact re-established between Rome and China.
981-1020 Roman conquest of India with Chinese support.
1023-1046 Roman surprise war against the Commonwealth of Terranova (Project Hadrian). First use of a 'division' military unit by Rome; first use of hand-held firearms by the Novans and steam-driven ships by Rome; half of the CWoTN is conquered; Japanese support of the Commonwealth during the war causes tensions between Rome and Japan.
1050 Chinese invention of the printing press reaches Rome.
1097-1107 Chinese civil war and collapse, greater Japanese expansions in Oceania but failure in establishing territory in China.
1104 Rome begins expanding in Sub-Saharan Africa.
1127 Rome begins supporting a Chinese kingdom, the Nanchao.
1131-1137 Commonwealth of Terranova civil war, Rome takes the opportunity to make further land gains against both sides. Formation of the Cuashium Confederation in the south.
1140 Romans begin colonising Australia and South Africa.
1142 Japan has expanded into Alaska.
1160-1206 Nanchao reunification of China with Roman support, formation of the Russian Empire in northeastern Europe.
1175 Japanese expansions in Alaska and western South America.
1185 Romans invent the telegraph.
1206-1227 Mongol Empire arises and strains both Rome and China.
1263-1294 Mongol empire fractures.
1282 First steam-driven tanks built by Rome.
1301-1314 World War One between Rome and the Japanese Empire and their allies, Japan is temporarily occupied and its empire divided into smaller nations. First use of radios. Set up of demilitarised zone between Rome and the Commonwealth of Terranova. Formation of a world council by China and Rome to prevent similar conflicts. Practical end of Roman expansion.
1316 X-ray properties discovered by Romans.
1321 First cell phones in Rome.
1326 Camera developed in Rome.
1330-1350 Hippie type culture emerges and fades in Rome and China.
1333-1345 Commonwealth of Terranova holocaust of aboriginal people.
1335 Official discovery of Antarctica. Due to irritating actions by the Somali kingdom, Rome conquers the kingdom and the world council organisation is given autonomous power over it.
1336-1353 Revolution in China, world council forms a united military to fight the rebellion but fails and eventually India is under attack by revolutionary China. New Chinese government does not recognise the world council and is far more traditionalist and anti-Roman.
1341-1345 Commonwealth War, CWoTN violates DMZ while invading Cuashium Confederation, CWoTN conquered and brought under the control of the world council.
1353 Formation of Roman and Chinese space programmes and space race.
1347 China and Rome begin serious research for nuclear weapons intended for use in the fighting in India.
1353 Roman-Chinese Cease fire comes only with the simultaneous declarations of the possession of nuclear weapons. Coldwar between Rome and China begins.
1357 China launches the first satellite.
1360 Cuashium scientist develops the laser.
1361 China builds the first nuclear power station.
1365 China puts first Human in space and a probe on the Moon, Roman space programme soon after sends up its first satellite.
1366 Rome sends its first Human into space.
1368 first forays to limit the development and testing of nuclear weapons.
1370 China joins with the Russians and the former Mongol entities of the Djagatai Khanate and Dà Ming Guó Sinica to form the Pan Asia Bloc to counter the world council.
1373 China expands its space programme, creating the Pan Asian Space Administration (PASA); developments for a lunar and martian mission are in conceptual stages. Rome launches the first semi-permanent space station.
1378 first civilian TVs in the Roman world.
1379 China sends the first Humans to the Moon and back. Despite appearances the Roman space programme is far behind and is scolded. In a panic its leadership advocates its subsumation into a world council directed entity. 5 more Chinese missions to the moon are in development.
1383 China’s first permanent space station is launch. Previous stations had been temporary and only for extended space flight experiments.
Writing of the first non-proliferation treaty, several nations sign but China and Rome withhold consideration.
1384 world council space agency (CMAS) formed, directly controlling all members’ aerospace capabilities. Roman programme subsumed, first Roman manned orbit of the Moon.
1386 formation of Pan Asian Forces to deal with uprisings in the Djagatai Khanate.
1387 CMAS lands Humans on the Moon.
1388 first cloned mammal in China.
1393 PASA mission to Mars launched, encounters extreme mechanical failure, aborts, and successfully returns home. The crew is never heard from again after their debriefings on Earth. CMAS begins pulling ahead of PASA.
1394 CMAS makes the first atomic clock.
1396 permanent CMAS lunar base.
1398 PASA lunar base.
1400 Successful CMAS mission to Mars, formation of the internet.
1404 first helicopters do not impress manufacturers, VTOL concepts are preferred.
1406 first experiments with fusion power in the Cuahsium Confederation.
1408 PASA successful mission to Mars.
1410 CMAS' first temporary Mars colony.
1413 PASA tests the first ion engines.
1415 first experiments with antimatter in Rome, Russian scientists experiment with the possibility of generating anti gravity using supercooled semi-conductors.
1417-1420 Civil war in Russian empire, Pan Asian Forces act immediately, first use of mechas in front line proves problematic at times and focus is later shifted to power armour. First use of nuclear weapons on civilians (2x). In the west, nation of Ukraine retains independence.
1422 Russian empire reconstituted into the Rossja Union.
1426-1434 rise and fall of legalised corporatism, growth of terrorism and corporate clyptocracies in the third world.
1427 CMAS' first permanent Mars colony.
1434-1437 Yellow scare and Khmer civil war, first use of “death rays” by corporate insurgents. PAF secret weapons of powered armour and electro-static shields debut but accomplish little.
1435 PAB and CM jointly created an organisation to hunt and destroy both terrorists and corporatists. The Anti-corporate Mandate.
