The House of Mackintosh was the royal house of Scotland for 70 years, from their victory in the First Clan Rebellion in 1819 until their eventual fall at the end of the Spalding War in 1889. The Mackintoshes, as the chief clan of the powerful Chattan Confederation from the Highlands, resumed Scottish traditions such as crowning their kings at Scone (albeit without the Stone of Scone) and, in a break with tradition, held the national capital at their clan seat of Inverness.
