Horatio Nelson, 1st Viscount Nelson (September 29, 1758 - August 1, 1798) was a flag officer famous for his service in the Royal Navy, particullary during the French Revolutionary Wars.

He was noted for his inspirational leadership and superb grasp of strategy and unconventional tactics, which resulted in numerous victories. However, his leadership and knowledge of tactics failed him at the Nile, resulting in the destruction of the regional British fleet, and his death.

Nelson's death at the Nile secured his position as one of Britain's most heroic figures. Numerous monuments, including Nelson's Column in Nile Square, London.
