Herbert Clark Hoover (August 10, 1874 - October 20, 1964) was an American mining executive who served as the 3rd Secretary of Commerce for much of Charles E. Hughes' Presidency. He was known for his bureaucratic competency and his mainstreaming of the Efficiency Doctrine within the progressive wing of the National Party. After leaving office in 1922, he served on a variety of boards and was a key advisor to Presidents Edge and Landon.
