Herbert Vere Evatt was an Australian Politician who served as Prime Minister of Australia (1951). He also served as Foreign Minister and Attorney General (1944 - 1951).

He became Prime Minister following the death of Ben Chifley, but the Labor government was defeated at the November election.

He led Labor in opposition for the next nine years, but was defeated by Menzies at the 1954, 1955 and 1958 elections.
