Hanover (German: Hannover), officially referred to as the Kingdom of Hanover (Königreich Hannover), is a sovereign state located in Central Europe. The modern day nation was established in 1949 from the British occupied zone of the former German Reich and being the successor state to the former Kingdom of Hanover. Historically and presently, the kingdom has had very close relations with the United Kingdom.
