World War III (also called WW-III or the Third World War) is a successor to World War II (1939–1945). In the wake of World War I, World War II, the commencement of the Cold War and the development, and testing and use of nuclear weapons, there was early widespread speculation as to the next global war. This war was anticipated and planned for by military and civil authorities, and explored in fiction in many countries. Scenarios ranged from conventional warfare, over the limited or full-blown use of nuclear weapons to the destruction of the planet.
Prelude to War
In the ensuing scares of the Cold War the Cuban missile Crisis is the one that topped it off and ended the world as we know it. With the Soviet refusal to remove the nuclear weapons from Cuba the US imposed a blockade on Cuba in which the Soviets did not like.
When Soviet ships attempted to run the blockade the US ships fired upon them and destroyed the cargo ships carrying the weapons. The next week was met with increased Soviet Naval presences, unannounced submarine warfare and over a 3000 casualties between US, Soviet, and Cuban Armed forces. Finally the US and Soviets declared a ceasefire for the time being and peace talks were held in Paris. While this was occurring, tensions between East and West Germany erupted into outright War. While the two Super powers began to talk peace various members of the Warsaw pact and NATO officially entered into conflict in Germany with the front shifting erratically and no major gains made by either side. This Changed entirely when a Polish Artillery unit bombarded Combined Anglo-German forces with Nuclear artillery. With this unprecedented action by the poles and with a Surprised USSR not even sure how the Unit Acquired the weapons (more than likely through a corrupt General) the war between NATO and the Warsaw Pact minus the US and Soviets escalated further. When a combined French, West-German, and British force broke the Front and advanced on Berlin slaughtering the retreating troops as they went the USSR officially declared Peace talks over and made their move.
The 7 Hour War
The Soviet Troops flooded over the East-German border and turned the tide once again. When fighting broke our between the Soviet and US troops proper it escalated heavily with a massively unexpected assault through the Baltic sea in which the Soviet navy was completely overwhelmed as they mobilized. with the possibility of losing the Entire Eastern front and maybe the whole country the Premier of the UUSR deployed the first nuclear weapons in which became commonly known as the 7 hours war. The Nuclear holocaust which ensued engulfed most of the planet with far Reaching consequences. Almost every major city across the Northern Hemisphere suffered from anywhere from one to ten nuclear strikes. The populations of the attacked nations were leveled in an instant, their infrastructure and cities leveled to the ground. In a Span of 7 hours Almost 1 billion people died across the northern hemisphere as nuclear hellfire engulfed their homes. The Worlds population had been permanently marred, with the resulting lack of humanitarian aid and support and resulting collapse of governments tens of millions more died. Not even one year post Conflict the predicted deaths from this conflict had well exceed 1.2 billion people with Africa continually suffering as well as continuing casualties in Asia. The War had permanently shifted the Balance of power to the Survivors.
