I just wanted to write my own Alternate History based on his fictional town, Grantville

The Ring of Fire Incident[]

2000 AD[]

  • The town of Grantville, West Virginia suddenly disappears along with 3.5k people

In Another Earth, Still in the past[]

387 AD[]

  • Grantville finds itself in the middle of Ancient Japan
  • After making contact with the Yamato Kingdom (the western half of Japan) they formed a defensive pact. American advisors help with the governing of Western Japan while new non-military technologies help with farming and production
  • Trade between Yamato (also known as Wa) and Grantville allow the American town to acquire enough food to feed themselves
  • Yamato Blacksmiths and Craftsmen began studying better techniques to make better quality iron and other materials
  • Japanese spies manage to acquire small bits-n-pieces of information of Uptime military technology. Plans to update the Yamato Army are already in motion

388 AD[]

  • Hindu-Arabic numerals and Modern Mathematics are introduced to the Yamato Court
  • The Bicycle is invented and becomes popular with both merchants and farmers

Yamato-Goguryeo War (390 AD)[]

390 AD[]

  • Due to the Butterfly Effect, the war between Yamato and the various Korean nations began one year earlier than OTL
  • Due to this being an offensive war by the Japanese Kingdom, Grantville does not send men or give its military technology and equipment
  • Due to improvements in both the Army and Navy, Yamato and its Korean allies defeat Goguryeo and Silla within a few months
  • As a consequence of this victory, the Korean peninsula remains splintered and is now under the influenced of the Japanese
  • Goguryeo and Silla not only have to give up some of their territories to Baekje and the Gaya Confederacy but also become vassals/tributary states of Japan
  • All five Korean states become vassals of the Yamato Kingdom

Peace, Stability and Assimilation[]

391 AD[]

  • The Yamato Government began implementing new systems to oversee the new trade income, taxation and communicating with its Korean vassals
  • To ensure that no conflict arises between them and Jin Dynasty China, a non-aggression pact is signed between Yamato, Grantville and China
  • The First Univerisity in Japan is built and funded by rich individuals within Grantville
  • Due to the many Japanese emigrating to Grantville its population has doubled
  • Literacy rates throughout the Yamato Kingdom began to increase
  • Uptime medicine began circulating throughout Japan and Korea
  • Yamato slowly assimilates its Emishi neighbors (who occupy Eastern Japan)
  • The Late Jin Dynasty receives intelligence about Grantville
  • Yamato creates gunpowder and the cannon, despite Grantville doing their best to keep the information secret

392 AD[]

  • The first railroad is constructed in Japan
  • A joint Korean-Grantville company invented the first steamboat
  • Yamato has finished its transition from the feudal system into something akin to the English government, with its own Parliament called the Diet (with representatives from the middle and lower classes as well as those from the Korean states)
  • Industrialization of Yamato occurs
  • Piracy becomes almost non-existent in the region
  • Freedom of religion (within reasonable and sane limits) becomes part of the new Nippon Constitution
  • Trying to catch up with Japan, China also establishes its first modern University

394 AD[]

  • Due to their surplus of food, Japan becomes the main exporter of rice in Asia
  • After much deliberation, Emperor Xiaowu of Jin hired several American advisors to prevent the future calamities that would hit China
  • Slowly but surely, Japanese and Korean culture began to grow and combine
  • Several chieftains of the nomadic tribes of Central Asia send their brightest children to be educated in the Universities
  • The Chinese Army slowly adapts Gunpowder Weapons such as the Musket and the Cannon
  • As a consequence of uptime information, Christianity isn't as widespread throughout the Two Roman Empires as in OTL
  • Pagan minorities demanded rights and protection from the state

400 AD[]

  • Life expectancy increases. The average Korean or Japanese has a reasonable chance of living to their sixties
  • Smallpox is no longer a threat in Japan, China or the Korean Tributary States
  • All of the Emishi peoples are annexed into the Yamato Kingdom
  • The Yamato Kingdom is renamed the Nippon (Japan) Empire
  • Grantville becomes part of Japan
  • The small Gaya Confederacy votes to be annexed into the Japanese Empire
  • The Two Roman Empires began inventing uptime inventions.

Colonization and the League of Asia[]

405 AD[]

  • Due to the small scale wars between the various nations of Southwest Asia, China and Japan ask that the nations of Asia send their representatives for a new treaty
  • The League of Asia is formed, issues regarding the nations of Asia could be settled in the International Court
  • The League gets its own army which holds no loyalty to any of the Asian nations
  • A joint Grantville-Japan-Chinese expedition makes it to the New World
  • Japan establishes a colony in Formosa (Taiwan)
  • China establishes its own colony in the Philippines
  • Japan annexes all of its remaining Korean vassal states
  • China starts industrializing
  • A Political Marriage is enacted between China and Japan to foster better relations. The heir of Japan is betrothed to a female member of the Jin Dynasty
  • Byzantium (Eastern Roman Empire) begins construction of the Suez Canal in Egypt
  • Though still practiced in some parts of China, female footbinding is officially illegal

406 AD[]

  • Embassies for China and Japan are established in both the Western and Eastern Roman Empires
  • Japan has an embassy in Sassanid Persia
  • The Gupta Empire of India joins the Asian League
  • The Hephthalites (White Huns) signed a non-aggression pact with the League and starts hiring advisors to help improve their country

408 AD[]

  • A joint Western-Byzantium expedition is made to post colonies in the New World
  • The Chinese-Japanese colony in the New World prospers and annexes five tribes
  • All of the nomadic tribes of Mongolia have become permanent vassal states of China
  • Due to better medicine and more reliable information on disease, the natives of the New World do not lose 90% of their population but started prospering
  • Also, Persian-Roman relations are improved thanks to the power of the League

412[]

  • The Suez Canal is finished on this date
  • Thanks to uptime technology and increased trade from Asia, the long decline of West and East Rome has stopped
  • Persia builds its first airship
  • Industrialization of China and Japan-Korea finishes
  • Women gained more rights during this year
  • The Nature Conservation Movement is founded this year

435-450 AD[]

  • All of the Philippines is annexed by Japan
  • The League incorporates the Romans and the Persians
  • A small minority of Japanese and Chinese Atheists begins to form and be involve in politics
  • The ban on slavery is enforced by the League
  • Serfdom is illegalize
  • More colonies are established in the New World
  • The first Solar Power Plants are established in Asia this year
  • Industrialization of Persia and the Two Romes finishes this year
  • The Romans and Persians start vassalizing and annexed their neighbors
  • Unlike today's China and Japan, the two countries in this Alternate Timeline become diverse, culturally and ethnically
  • Laws akin to those used by Modern Western Societies are slowly being implemented throughout the world
  • The League enacts a military intervention when conflict between the White Huns and India erupts
  • The Gupta-Hephthalite conflict ends in two months. Japan and China pour more resources into modernizing infrastructure in the area in exchange for access to Hephthalite oil
  • The world population has doubled to 620 Million
  • Tofu day becomes a National Holiday in India
  • The Nordic Confederation is formed (Scandinavia) as well as the Celtic Kingdom (Ireland and Scotland)
  • Siberia is now part of China
  • Colonization of Australia and New Zealand has begun
  • Atheism is protected under the League, even though the stigma against it is still prevalent in Europe

521 AD[]

  • The Modern Idea of Secularism becomes popular in Japan
  • Crime levels are at an all new low in Japan
  • After 236 years, the Roman Empire is reunited once again
  • There are over 300 denominations of Christianity
  • The idea of Church and State separation is implemented in China. Surprisingly, many Nobles, Buddhist Priests and Confucius Scholars support the move
  • All of the New World is colonized
  • New World Architecture becomes popular in Asia and Europe
  • The Slavic Republic is formed
  • Women have equal rights to men

Secularism and Modern Culture[]

533 AD[]

  • Clashes between Secularists and Atheists against Christians and Zoroastrians have increased throughout Rome and Persia
  • Half of Asian countries have implemented Church-State separation laws
