Al Gore: 44th President of the United States

The United States presidential election of 2000 was the 54th quadrennial presidential election. It was held on Tuesday, November 7, 2000. The contest was between Republican candidate George W. Bush, the incumbent governor of Texas and son of former president George H. W. Bush, and Democratic candidate Al Gore, the incumbent Vice President. The incumbent President, Bill Clinton, was vacating the position after serving the maximum two terms allowed by the Twenty-second Amendment. Gore won the election, with 282 electoral votes, as compared to Bush's 256 (with one elector abstaining in the official tally).
