Germany (German: Deutschland), officially the Federal Republic of Germany (German: Bundesrepublik Deutschland) is a sovereign state and fedeal parliamentary republic in Central-western Europe. It includes 16 constituent states, covers an area of 358,022 square kilometers. Its capital and largest city is Berlin. It has a population of around 82.5 million inhabitants, making it the most populous European Union member state. After the United States, it is the second most popular human migration destination.
After the breakup of Belgium, Germany gained the former German-speaking Community of Belgium, increasing its size by 854 km², and population by 76,090. Two districts (Eupen and Eifel) were accepted into the state of Rhineland-Palatine.
