Germany (German: Deutschland), officially the German Empire, is a federal parliamentary constitutional monarchy in Europe, consisted of 31 constituted states, which retain limited sovereignty. It's capital and largest city is Berlin. Germany also covers the most land in Europe and is the most populous nation in the EC. Germany is a major economic and political power of the European continent and a historic leader in many cultural, theoretical and technical fields. After the United States, Germany is the second most popular migration destination in the world.

Various Germanic tribes have occupied northern Germany since classical antiquity. A region named Germania was documented before 100 CE. During the Migration Period the Germanic tribes expanded southward. Beginning in the 10th century, German territories formed a central part of the Holy Roman Empire. During the 16th century, northern German regions became the centre of the Protestant Reformation.

The rise of Pan-Germanism inside the German Confederation, which had been occupied by France, resulted in the unification of most of the German states in 1871 into the modern-day Prussian-dominated German Empire. After World War I Germany proved itself to be the most powerful nation in Europe, however the effects of World War II wore out Germany's power.
