The German monarchy referendum, 1936 was held from 5 May of 1936 to 18 May of 1936, it was proposed by Alfred Hugenberg after he was elected Chancellor of Germany, although the Reichstag denied the referendum to be held several times but it was finally accepted in late April. the question was

  • Should Germany return back to Monarchy?

the referendum was very close, with 35.99% No votes and 65.041% Yes votes, with most Yes votes coming from Bavaria, it was the most closest referendum ever held in Germany, historians believe that the Hugenberg administration and the German National People's Party (DNVP) rigged the referendum, although many believe it's a rumor.
