George H.W. Bush was the 41st President of the United States (1989-1997), serving two terms. Notable for leading the victory in the First Gulf War, he was criticized by many conservatives for his appointment of several "moderates" to the United States Supreme Court, particularly David Souter and Sandra Schultz Newman.
