Garry Mansfieldovich Molotov (Russian: Гарий Мансьфилдович Молотов, Gariy Mans'fildovich Molotov) is a New Devoner politician and the 3rd and current President of the United Republic of New Devon and New Ingria. He is notable for being the first former Russian Continental Army activist to become an Antarctic political leader, and also the first president to be a New Ingrian. His current vice president, Dorothy Mallon, is also notable for being the first Udavengian in the position.
Molotov was born Garry Dane Hummelstein (Russian: Гарий Дейн Хуммельштин, Gariy Deyn Khummel'shtin) on 15 April 1955 in Faddeysk, New Ingria. His parents were Mansfield Hummelstein, a captain in the Commonwealth Forces in Antarctica, and Varvara Hummelstein (nee Kuzmina), a telephone operator.
Molotov came from a diverse ancestry. He is of English, German, Russian, Kilaiye, and Aboriginal descent, and he would later use to win over numerous voters in his presidential campaign.
Molotov was born into a comfortable middle-class family. His family personally had nothing against Russo-Antarctic nationalism, but when he saw his father firing at protesters (following orders that he didn't like), he resolved to join the Russian Continental Army.
Russian Continental Army
Molotov joined the Russian Continental Army when he was 17, after he saw his father fire shots at Russo-Antarctic protesters. While a member, he Russified his name into Gariy Mans'fildovich Molotov. Later on, he would recount that he chose his current surname not because of any admiration for Vyacheslav Molotov, but because "it was a cool Russian name." Reportedly his favorite weapon during his time in the RCA was the eponymous Molotov cocktail.
Molotov was supposedly involved in the assassination of Terenti Mishnev, assassin of Lord Beauford Carter. He is said to have been the one that threw the petrol bomb that blocked Mishnev's prison convoy and allowed his fellow RCA activists to kill their former comrade. Mishnev had agreed to name the RCA's leaders in exchange for lessening his death sentence to life imprisonment, which had caused the RCA to call for his death.
Eventually, Molotov came to disagree with some of the RCA's more militant views and joined the Russian-Antarctics for Peace (Russian: Русская Антарктиды для мира, Russkaya Antarktidy dlya mira, RAM) faction within the RCA. This faction was devoted to reaching a peaceful and diplomatic solution with the colonial government of New Devon. Molotov was appointed bureau chief in Lockhart-on-Wye (now Ligoquilizar in Udaveng), and he moved there in 1974. It was there that he met his future wife, Alicia Sweeney, and her younger sister Dorothy, who would eventually become his second vice president. Molotov and Sweeney were married in a private ceremony on 6 June 1975.
New Devon's transition to independence
Prime Minister Donald Peek approved republican debates within the New Devoner Congress in 1985. By then, Molotov was already a prominent and influential figure within the Russian Antarctic Party of New Devon (the new name Russian-Antarctics for Peace faction of the Russian Continental Army after totally splitting away from the RCA), and he was appointed congressional advisor to Congressman Pavel Yavayev, one of the RAPND's two representatives in the Congress. Molotov urged Yavayev to take the moderate stance in the debates, which were often heated verbal battles between the Republicans, which desired independence, and the Unionists, who wanted to join Bellinsgauzenia. Later on, in 1987, the RAPND merged with the Liberal Party of New Devon, and this coalition would win 40 percent of Parliament seats. The Liberal Party, along with the Conservative, Progressive Federalist, and United Farmers Parties, had become moderates by then, and they approved what would eventually become the 1989 referendum.
Elmo Focker, then a little-known Anglo-German politician from Wilkins, New Devon, suddenly announced his decision to run for Prime Minister of New Devon. On his moderate platform, he gathered the support of the four aforementioned parties, as well as numerous other small parties and organizations, and campaigned for the ministership under the Horizon Coalition. He won with an overwhelming 80 percent of the votes, and because of this overwhelming public support, New Devon voted for independence from the United Kingdom in 1989. The United Republic of New Devon and New Ingria was created a year later, with Prime Minister Focker as its first President.
Molotov's political career began when he ran for Congress as a representative of his home town of Faddeysk. He ran under the banner of the Horizon Coalition, and he easily won the seat for the 24th District.
