Frithunanthis, also known by the modern version of his name, Ferdinand I, was King of Spain from 817 to 824. The son and successor of Witiges, his rule was marked by widespread discontent and economic depression. He was overthrown in 824 by an alliance of nobles and was replaced by his cousin, Athafuns I. Frithunanthis retired to a monastery where he spent the remainder of his days.
