The French Community (French: Communauté du Peuple Français, literally Community of the French People). It is a loose federation of the former French possessions, which share an over-arching political structure and military.

History[]

After contact had been made with mainland France for several months, the five overseas departments of France located in the Caribbean met in Cayenne to discuss their future. They quickly agreed that co-operation was vital. However, with insistences from Guiana for the capital to be located there, and the reluctance of the others to be swallowed by it, led to the federation taking a very weak form. Whilst elections are made overall, and the military and foreign relations are coordinated, each state has highly devolved parliaments and powers, including taxation and other domestic affairs. In the 1971 a French ship of the Navy reach the Caribbean in a expedition in America, with this expedition France was able of retake control of the French Antilles, with the annexation of the French Community.

International Relations[]

The French Community experiences close links with the West Indies Federation and the Dutch Antilles, though some tensions have been caused over the FC wishing control over the French-Speaking WIF states of Dominica and Saint Lucia. It also experiences tense relations with Hispaniola, which it claims is illegally occupying Haiti.

Member States[]

The Community has five states, which have control over internal affairs.
