France (France: Francaise), officially known as the French Republic or Fifth French Republic, is a Western European nation. France is the successor of the Fourth French Republic and the Democratic Republic of France, which ceased to exist upon the 1991 Reunification of France, which was denoted with a constitutional reform creating a "Fifth Republic." The French population is currently approaching 70 million people, making it the second-most populous in Western Europe. The capital of France is Paris. France has a parliamentary form of government, with an empowered National Assembly, a weak Senate and an honorary head of state.
