The French Empire is a country proclaimed by Napoléon I in 1804.
Although it has lost some European territory since the death of its founder it still is the largest and most powerful state of Western Europe.
After the death of its first emperor his only legitimate son Napoléon François Joseph Charles was crowned emperor of the French at the mere age of one. Because he was still to young to reign his mother Marie Louise of Austria was appointed as a regent. Because of this the French Empire came under strong Austrian influence. Which only really ended after the complete breakup of Austria after the Second Great War.
