Current Foreign Policy

Stantàltera Pato

Stantàltera Pato is the status attributed to states that the government of Venice has organised an alliance with, sovereignty is guaranteed protection and trade has almost no limitations and taxes are minimised. The government of Venice welcomes those who benefit from this status and encourages co-operation concerning maintenance of sovereignty and the expansion of trade and industry. Officials, property and people of these states may be granted generous temporary leave to the territories of Venice and will be granted full protected rights as a foreigner.

The current states with this status:

  • The Kingdom of Naples:
Venice maintains a general alliance. Currently Venice is supporting various claims Naples has made. Venice met with the Kingdom in 1400 and discussed various matters that have led to the establishment of an economic and military alliance. Further both have now recognised the claims of each other.
  • The Papal States:
Venice maintains a general alliance. Currently Venice and the Papal States are working together on the issue of the Ottoman threat to the west. Venice wishes to maintain good standings with the States and and expand aspects of co-operation.
  • The Roman Empire:
Venice maintains a general alliance. Currently Venice supports the Romans and further favours them and wishes for them to regain status in the world. Venice has met with the Romans in 1400 and discussed various matters that have led to the establishment of an economic and military alliance. Further both have now recognised the claims of the other concerning lands in Greece.
  • The Kingdom of Castile:
Venice maintains a general alliance. Currently Venice is working with the Kingdom on issues in the western Mediterranean. Venice met with the Kingdom in 1400 and discussed various matters that have led to the establishment of an economic and military alliance. Further both have now recognised the claims of the other.
  • The Kingdom of Hungary:
Venice maintains a general alliance. Currently Venice is supporting the Kings various claims including that to the Kingdom itself. Venice met with the Kingdom in 1400 and the Doge and King met in 1401 and discussed various matters that have led to the establishment of an economic and military alliance. Further both have now recognised the claims of each other.
  • The Counties of Brabant-Hainaut-Holland:
Venice maintains a general alliance. Currently Venice is supporting their trade power outside of the Mediterranean and is poised to further support them if they ask. They are allied in both the economic and military sense and despite their distance Venice will assist them if need be.
  • The County of Provence:
Venice maintains a general alliance. Currently Venice wishes to have a proper meeting with the Count so that they may understand and support each other better, certain things such as claims and possibilities for future co-operation need to be ironed out. Venice strongly supports their independence.
  • The County of Savoy:
Venice maintains a general alliance. Currently Venice wishes to have a proper meeting with the Count so that they may understand and support each other better, certain things such as claims and possibilities for future co-operation need to be ironed out. Venice strongly supports their independence.
  • The Swiss Confederacy:
Venice maintains a general alliance. The Swiss have partook in talks about possible land swaps and are supporting the Swiss desire to obtain a port, currently the landlocked nature of the Confederacy makes progress difficult. Venice strongly supports their independence.
  • The Kingdom of England:
Venice maintains a general alliance. Currently Venice wishes to have a proper meeting with the King so that they may understand and support each other better, certain things such as claims and possibilities for future co-operation need to be ironed out. Venice has businesses in England and will protect their interests.
  • The Kingdom of France:

Micìsia

Micìsia is the status attributed to states that the government of Venice has good relations and co-operation with, sovereignty is recognised and trade has a low amount of limitations and taxes levied are lower. The government of Venice encourages those who benefit from this status to work with Venice on various matters of state and welcomes the expansion of trading relations. Officials, property and people of these states may be granted basic temporary leave to the territories of Venice and will be granted basic protected rights as a foreigner.

The current states with this status:

  • The Republic of Florence:
Venice wishes to establish closer relations with Florence. Venice and Florence agreed in 1401 to a trade deal, further the Medici and Roscol banks agreed to not partake in business within the territories and vassals of Venice and Florence respectively. Further trade deals were signed in 1403.
  • The City of Hamburg:
Venice wishes for Hamburg and Venice to become allies. Hamburg and Venice currently maintain a trade alliance with Venice promising to support Hamburg endeavours into the Mediterranean. However Venice feels it cannot commit fully unless a full alliance is agreed. Venice is outraged at the recent invasion of their lands.

Cordiàl

Cordiàl is the status attributed to states that the government of Venice either has little contact with but is aware of or has contact but in neither a particularly negative nor positive fashion, sovereignty is recognised and trade has reasonable limitations and taxes are levied at a standard rate. The government of Venice advises those that have this status to work with Venice to improve relations and trade. Officials, property and people of these states may be granted limited temporary leave to particular areas of Venetian territory and may not enter other areas lest they be imprisoned or confiscated as appropriate and will be granted basic protected rights as a foreigner.

The current states with this status:

  • The Ottoman Empire:
Venice feels that the Ottomans have acted dutifully in attempting to lower tensions with the west although they are still viewed as a threat, they are still an important trade partner. Venice would like to maintain cool relations with the Ottomans, provided that the Ottomans wish to carry on such proceedings.

Menàso

Menàso is the status attributed to states that the government of Venice considers to be a threat to Venetian interests, uncontested sovereignty is recognised and trade is very limited with higher taxes levied. The government of Venice advises those who are affected by this status to use caution when concerning matters of the Republic. Officials, property or people of these states are limited to grants of leave to particular areas of Venetian territory and may not enter other areas lest they be imprisoned or confiscated as appropriate and will be granted limited rights as a foreigner.

The current states with this status:

  • The Duchy of Milan:
Venice has repeatedly tried to improve diplomatic relations with Milan but has by and large been ignored. The Doge has sworn vengence against the state and with added rumours that they are planning to invade something in the future makes Venice even more hostile to them.

Nemìgo

Nemìgo is the status attributed to states that the government of Venice has deemed an immediate foe, their sovereignty is not recognised and their trade is sanctioned. The government of Venice advises those who are affected by this status to stay clear of the Republic's sovereignty, property and those under the Republic's protection. Officials, property or people of these states will not be accepted in Venetian territory and will be imprisoned or confiscated as appropriate.
