The 2014 FIFA World Cup was the 20th FIFA World Cup, the tournament for the association football world championship, which took place at several venues across the Empire of Japan. Japan won the tournament, the country's first and best result in the FIFA World Cup since 2006 when it made it to third place. This is also the first world cup in which the Japanese dependencies made it in.
