Star Trek: The Original Series is an American science fiction television series created by Gene Roddenberry that follows the adventures of the starship USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) and its crew.

Star Trek: The Original Series

The show is set in the Milky Way galaxy, roughly during the 2250s. The ship and crew are led by Captain Christopher Pike (Jeffrey Hunter), first officer and science officer Number One, (Majel Barrett), and chief medical officer Phillip Boyce (John Hoyt). Hunter's voice-over introduction during each episode's opening credits stated the starship's purpose:

Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.

The series was produced 1965–67 by Desilu Productions, and by Paramount Television 1968–70. Star Trek aired on NBC from February 28, 1965 to March 1, 1970 and from March 7th on Canada's CTV network. Star Trek‍ '​s Nielsen ratings while on NBC were average, and the network ended it after five whole seasons and 125 episodes.
