The People's Republic of Asia is a very large nation in Asia, bordering the USSR to the north, India to the South-West and Myanmar to the West. It is regarded as a major world power and plays an influential part in Project ASCENSION.

History[]

Founding[]

The People's Republic of China had been founded in 1949 and had then gone on to play major roles in wars involving Communist nations, mainly in Korea in the Korean War. In the 1950s, the success of Mao Zedong and the stalemate in Korea furthered communism there; by the time of Braking Day further communist insurgencies were growing in Indochina, most notably the war in Vietnam.

However, Braking Day helped put the issue into perspective and a ceasefire was agreed upon in the weeks leading up to Braking day, which later lead to a permanent peace-treaty in 1964. China played a significant part in the signing of the peace-treaty, and helped show the Vietnamese people were not very pleased with how the war had ended up.

Although the war had ended with a peace treaty, it was seen by communist forces in Laos, Cambodia and Thailand as a victory for the North Vietnamese, increasing their morale and subsequent funding and power base. This led to insurgents in these areas eventually managing to overthrow their governments and establish communist systems, leaving South Vietnam isolated on the Indochinese peninsula, an escape route for those fearing communism.

Time of Change[]

In 1971, Chinese forces invaded Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, and North Vietnam in reflection of the Cuban Missile Crisis, in order to pacify pro-Soviet sentiment. It was also to ensure that the country was not pinned down around neighbours which did not like it very much. The People's Republic of China subsequently reformed as the People's Republic of Asia, and gave the chance of joining the PRA to South Vietnam, which it accepted.

The country then focused on uniting all the new areas under its control. Many infrastructure projects were started to help connect the new areas with mainland China. These included railways, roads and highways and better airports. Saigon, Hanoi, Bangkok all got special attention to turn them into cities like Beijing and Shanghai and businesses flourished.

Things in the north were not going so well, however. The Soviet Union was angered by the actions of the Chinese, as it lost its loyal Indochinese states. For many years between 1971 and 1982, the countries bordered on war. Only the strength of the UN, mutual antagonism of the west and pleas of the Aash'n kept these two nations in check.
