Russia (Russian: Росси́я), officially the Russian Confederation (Russian: Российская конфедерация), is a country in Eastern Europe. The country was founded in early 2017 following the dissolution and reorganization of the Russian Federation.

Politics[]

The Russian Confederation is a parliamentary confederation with a system closely resembling that of the Federal Republic of Germany. Under the new constitution, most executive powers were transferred from the presidency to the chancellery. The constituent republics within the Russian Confederation have more autonomy then they had under the Russian Federation. Ksenia Sobchak was elected in the 2018 Russian presidential election and was inaugurated on 7 May 2018. Alexei Navalny had been appointed Chancellor of the Russian Confederation by then Acting President Vyacheslav Borisov on 25 April 2017 and became the true leader of Russia on 7 May 2018.

Anthem[]

As part of the process of "De-Putinization", the "State Anthem of the Russian Federation" was deemed unacceptable due to the fact that it was Vladimir Putin who brought back the old Soviet hymn. For the time being, "The Patriotic Song" had once again become the anthem of Russia. Eventually the very musical composition from the old Soviet hymn was officially outlawed by the Russian Government.

Economy[]

Russian economy suffered greatly as a result of World War III and total economic embargoes put into place by the United States prior to the conflict. The war reparations and the significant loss of oil revenue due to territorial concessions in the peace treaty hurt Russian economy more. By 2020, the Russian Confederation was officially in a state of economic depression. There is growing support for integrating Russia into the Euro zone.

Defense[]

The Self-Defense Forces of the Russian Confederation (Силы Cамообороны Российской Конфедерации) are the unified military forces of Russia. The SDFRC are significantly weaker then the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation due to hundreds of thousands of Russian military personnel being killed in the war and most equipment was lost. Furthermore the Armistice of 25 April 2017 required Russia to forfeit much of its surviving equipment as well as further downsize its manpower. Ksenia Sobchak and Alexei Navalny had successfully pushed for the legislature which eliminated the Russian military as an offensive force and made it strictly for defense. Before the peace treaty was signed, a number of the more radical American and other NATO politicians had called for the total disarmament of the Russian military and a total military occupation of the defeated country though that ultimately never happened.

History[]

OTL History[]

Everything before 17 March 2015

Russian Belligerence[]

The Russian Federation invaded southern and eastern Ukraine resulting in the creation of six additional people's republics to the original two in Donbas. Russia and NATO went to war in 2015 resulting in a world war lasting years with severe destruction and extreme loss of life. Much of Eastern Europe and the North American West Coast were occupied by Russian forces during the war. When NATO eventually turned the tide, President Vladimir Putin ordered the use of tactical nuclear weapons however he was deposed in a coup before this could happen. An armistice was subsequently signed.

Post-War Russia[]

National Reorganization[]

The Russian Confederation was created in the aftermath of World War III through the reorganization of the Russian Federation. A policy of De-Putinization was implemented which effectively undid many of the changes made to Russia after Vladimir Putin had become President.
