FInal Command is a surviving army division which was posted in Fort Riley before the nuclear attack. After the nukes, the Major General Hudson McCollum turned the local military forces into a paramilitary organization known as Final Command.

Its command structure is composed of the self-proclaimed General Hudson McCollum (who was Major General prior the Nukes), and his seconds, Colonel James Francis Pratt and Lieutenant Colonel David Cohen, previously Captain and First Lieutenant before being promoted by McCollum after the creation of Final Command.

History[]

Following the nuclear attack, the troops assigned to Fort Riley, the 1st Infantry Division, were left without news from the main American Army. Without clear orders, the highest ranked officer was the Major General Hudson McCollum. Realizing that the United States were done, he proclaimed himself General of Fort Riley, and with his loyal troops formed the organization of Final Command, the name coming from the idea that they were the last command structure in the army.

Captain James Francis Pratt, who helped McCollum to gain the loyalty of the troops, was promoted as Colonel as a reward, making him the second highest officer in Final Command, as well as the unofficial heir of McCollum at the head of Final Command if the General was to die. First Lieutenant David Cohen, who was close to McCollum before the Nukes, was also rewarded with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, making him the third highest officer in the organization after McCollum and Pratt. This was followed by a rapid expansion east in order to gain cities under their control, including Junction City.

Shortly after its creation, Final Command came in contact what called itself the surviving government of the United States, under President Robert McNamara. A first dispute between the two groups became apparent, as McNamara government didn't recognized the autonomy of Final Command, still considering it part of the US army, and Final Command refusing to recognize the legitimacy of McNamara as 36th President, only calling his government the Colorado Government. After numerous negotiations, they both agreed to a non-aggression treaty, as well as the delimitation of territory, Colorado being under McNamara and Kansas under McCollum, like in Korea (the idea was proposed by General McCollum).

During the winter 1962-63, the army of First Command got into skirmishes with numerous groups of snow raiders living north of Fort Riley. In order to deal with them, Colonel James F. Pratt send spec ops to kidnap the snow raiders' leaders, who were then judged by Pratt in martial court before being sent to the firing squad. Without their leaders, the snow raiders were defeated, and their territories annexed.

In 1964, Final Command made a massive move by annexing Kansas City. After this, many new administrative reforms where put in place, including the creation of the Red Riders and turning Kansas City into a Capital.

Command Structure[]

The command structure of Final Command has similarities with the US Army's structure, the first being based on the second. The ranks in First Command are nearly the same as the one in the US Army.

However, the highest rank achievable is the rank of general, which is given to the leader of Final Command. It is also the only general-officer rank in Final Command.

General[]

General is the highest rank that a member of Final Command can achieve. He has total power over the organization, deciding what actions they should take and what policies they should adopt. He is also the supreme commander of Final Command's armies, being the ultimate authority in case of war.

Due to the lack of real parliamentary system, the general has to make every decision by himself, although he can delegate tasks to lower officers.

Colonel[]

The Colonel is the second highest rank in Final Command, mainly due to the fact that the rank of general is the only general officer rank in the organization. He is the second in command, as well as the right hand of the General of Final Command. Because of this, he is also the heir of the general, although it is mostly unofficial.

One of the numerous functions of the Colonel in First Command that is unique to the organization is his role as Supreme Judge of the Martial Court, making him responsible of judging every trial and crime that happen among the members of Final Command.

Lieutenant Colonel[]

The Lieutenant Colonel is the third highest rank in Final Command behind the General and the Colonel. Because of this, he is officially the second in succession order behind the Colonel. His tasks mainly consist as being the junior officer of the General, seconding him in his duties.

The Lieutenant Colonel is also in command of the Red Riders division, which is an elite force which travel on motorcycles. Thus, the Lieutenant Colonel has the elite forces of Final Command under his direct command.

The Red Riders, formed in 1965, are the equivalent of the Marines in Final Command, although with some differences due tothe time and situation of modern America. Each member of the Red Riders is a professional soldier as well as a veteran, who received special training. They are also recognizable for their unique flag among Final Command and for riding motorcycles in the battlefield.

The Red Riders originate from the annexation of Kansas City in 1964, when Lieutenant Colonel David Cohen organized an assault of the city on motorcycles to allow faster travel. The idea was recycled into the Red Riders, who were put under direct command of the Lieutenant Colonel.

Recruitment[]

Enlistment[]

One of the two ways of joining the army of Final Command is by voluntarily enlisting in the army. To do so, a man between 18 and 40 years old has to personally go to the recruitment center of their town or city, and sign the registry, accepting the conditions related to the military service. They will then be sent to Fort Riley, where they will follow the standard training for recruit, which is the same as the one in the US army before the Nukes.

Note that the fact that a soldier enlisted voluntarily instead of being forcibly conscripted give him a special note on his file, which give him advantages when it come to promotions over his conscripted comrades.

Conscription[]

By February 1963, a forced conscription was put in place by General Hudson McCollum. This new conscription made military service obligatory for every man between 18 and 40 years old, and for a variable duration which depend on the age, people of less than 30 being forced to 10 years of military service, and people between 30 and 40 to only five years.

Someone who reach 18 years old has two months in order to voluntarily enlist himself in the army, after which he will be forcibly conscripted and send to Fort Riley in order to be trained. Refusal to follow the conscription can result into forced work.

Diplomacy[]

USA territories[]

Shortly after the Nukes, Final Command came in contact with the government of President McNamara, who stated that they are the legitimate government of the United-States. Disputes rapidly erupted between them over the real successor of the USA as well as the autonomy of Final Command, They ended up agreeing over a non-aggression treaty, as well as the delimitation of both territories (McNamara own Colorado and McCollum own Kansas).
