Urban Areas[]
The capital city of the Duchy of Mantua is Mantua, while it is of little importance it brings some new troops to the North Italian Union's arsenal. There are not many other cities that are important within Mantua however there is now a string of cities beginning to be built up on trade due to the new trade route from Venice through Mantua and Modena all the way to Genoa.
Subdivisions[]
The Duchy of Mantua is divided into 2 provinces, the first being Outer Mantua and the second being Mantua. Its subdivisional system used to operate diferently to the Venetian however after integration into the North Italian Union, it became exactly the same except for its state governance.
Each province is administered by a Consiglio Provinciale(Provincial Council), whose members are chosen by the Personale Consiglio. The Consiglio Provinciale reside within the capital city of the province and take care of day to day operations (such as taxes, recruitment and internal trade) with the assistance of the Autorità Grande, however have no power in government and can have legislation forced upon them from the Mantovani Consiglio di Stato. Each district is controlled by an Assemblea dei Nobili(Assembly of Nobles) who each share dominion over the district and must provide what the council requests, these nobles are all from different houses and so are less likely to attempt a coup.
Culture[]
The official Mantovan language is italian however it has a minority group of Venetian speakers who either come from Venice or were trained by Venetians. The official religion is Catholocism without being subject to the church, something which is enforced by Mantovan officials with the assistance of the Autorità Grande.

The official name of Mantua is the Duchy of Mantua. The official name of the government is Mantovani Consiglio di Stato. The Duchy of Mantua is ruled by the Duke as head of state and head of all government institutions. Under him is the Consiglio di Forza who comprise of a group of nobles chosen by the Duke who act as the executive arm of the government and have complete authority over government actions however their actions can be stopped by the Duke upon use of veto. They are in control of their own individual Personale Consiglio who number 13 individuals (chosen by the Consiglio di Forza) take care of day to day legislation enacted by the nobles. Finally there is the Autorità Grande who form the acting force of the Government who carry out decrees and government business, they are administered in Venice however are active everywhere in the North Italian Union.
History[]
With the Venetians now in charge of recording the history of Mantua, they have decided to skip all pre-union years and start at 1654.
Foreign Relations[]
The foreign relations of Mantua are administered by the Venetians, at least on a government level however the people continue to have their own opinions on other nation states.
Colonies[]
The Duchy of Mantua has no colonies and there are no plans to expand one anywhere. However the colony of Terra di Calore is rumoured to eventually be divided into several parts with one being under the control of Mantua.
Military[]
The Mantovani military is subject to the Venetian style conscription and operates in exactly the same way as the Venetian military, with each noble of a Assemblea dei Nobili having to procure a battaglione of troops for the Mantovani army. A battaglione of troops consists of 4 compagnia of foot (80 men each), 2 horse compagnia (80 men) and 1 artillery compagnia (80 men). Mantovani troops are armed quite heavily with 60 men per compagnia of foot armed with muskets and swords along with some traditional armour and the other 20 being trained with pike and sword and wearing the same armour, the horse compagnia would all be trained with swords along with grenades allowing them to serve a raiding order with better efficiency than other cavalry units, artillery compagnia are trained with pike while also being able to use cannon although cannon size varies with smaller bore being more common in the northern compagnias and larger bore being common in the south. Should there be insufficient population for such a battaglione to be created then the noble would be required to hire at least 300 mercenaries to compensate.
