 The Madagasikara League is a short-lived international alliance and confederation based on the island of Madagascar but also extending to the mainland of the East African Coast. The League ended de facto with the integration of Betsileo and Sanafah into the Empire of Madagasikara.

After the Zimbabwean War, the League was brought back, after the temporary independence of Sofala. Citing the indivisibility of the League, Emperor Esteban used the league to authorize Madagasikaran military action in Sofala to crush the Muslim rebels.

History

The Madagasikara League was created as an attempt to consolidate the power of Sanafah and its nations in personal or dynastic unions. Additionally, colonies and vassals are included in the league.

League in 1470

When, in 1470, it was decided by Tiavina that a census was to be taken of Sanafah, his advisers suggested that a League-wide census be taken. Following their advice, Tiavina polled the entire populace of the League; the population of all member states in 1470 was reported to be 1,287,200.

After integration of Sakalava and Sanafah, the two most powerful states of the Madagasikara League into a nation named Madagasikara, the League became of little use to the now-Christian Kings of Madagascar. The League still remained as the official governing body of all vassal states, colonial states, and leader states although the last conference of the League for over forty years was called in 1481, the year right prior to integration.

After the Zimbabwean War, in 1510, the League became of increased importance when King Esteban rose Sofala, Mozambika, and Pembara to the status of dominion of the Madagasikara League and under direct rule of the Crown of Madagasikara, as represented in the new charter of the Madagasikara League.

By 1531 and the creation of the colony of Namibia, the League began to take on an increasing role in governing the entirety of the member states. Not only a trade organization anymore, the addition of al-Swahili in 1538 and al-Sumal in 1540 returned the League to its earlier purposes of maintaining hegemony under Emperor Ignacio.

Provisions

Some of the provisions of the Madagasikara League are:

• Admission requires approval of the Heads of State of both Madagasikara (the Emperor of the League) and the nation that is to join the League;
• Withdrawal requires approval of the Emperor of the League, as well as the consent of the majority of the citizenry of the withdrawing nation (to be determined during the Census);
• Each nation will conduct a census every 10 years, on the start of the new Decade, which will then be compiled and recorded;
• An attack on any member of the League by any external force is to be considered an attack on all member nations of the League, therefore all nations will be obliged to declare war on the attacking nation;
• The Emperor may declare war on behalf of the entire League with the consent of the Viceroys or Kings of at least 3 member states;
• The Emperor may authorize use of military, be it naval or land-based, force to enforce the decisions of the League; and
• No member of the League may be vassalized by an influence not within the League; therefore all members must be selective in vassalization attempts.
