History[]

Post Doomsday[]

In the early 1990s, Senegal, Ghana, Nigeria, and Ivory Coast, seeing the abundance of agricultural land in Togo mainly used as Subsistence farmland, began pressuring the un-elected president of the nation, Eyadema Gnassingbe to begin a return to full democracy in exchange for economic aid. Progress was slow but free elections were held in 1998 leading to Gnassingbe losing the election. The new government of Togo began a series of economical and agricultural reforms converting much of the subsistence farming economy into large scale commercial farming. With the worldwide demand for food, by 2009 Togo had become a world leader in food exports. Along with Senegal, Ghana, Nigeria, and Ivory Coast, formed the West African Union in 1999.
