The Khanate of Kokand (Uzbek: Qo'qon Xonligi) is a nation located in the Ferghona Valley and the areas around it. It was established after the union of the two city-states of Kokand and Ferghona joined peacefully and annexed much of the Ferghona Valley, which at that time was in chaos.

History[]

Pre-Doomsday[]

The Khanate of Kokand was established when a Shaybanid noble from Uzbek descent declared independence from the Khanate of Bukhara. Kokand, however, was almost never fully independent. In the XVIII Century, it was a protectorate of the Qing Dynasty in China, and in the XIX one it was a protectorate of the Russian Empire. Under Alexander II of Russia, Kokand was finally disestablished and annexed into the Ferghona Governorate of the Russian Empire.

Kokand was later divided into the Uzbek, Tajik and Kyrgyz SSR in the Soviet Union.

Doomsday[]

Within the territory that today is controlled by the Khanate, only the city of Andijan in the far east of the Uzbek SSR was hit by a nuclear weapon on Doomsday. However, civil disarray soon took over the entire Ferghona Valley, as the capitals of all three SSR that contained the Khanate, Frunze, Tashkent and Dushanbe were destroyed in Doomsday, and contact with any USSR authority collapsed.

Post-Doomsday[]

The local authorities were able to stand Doomsday relatively well. The local governments holding the territories in Ferghona met in Kokand in November 12, 1983 and established the Kokandi Provisional Government. Immediately, a local governor from one of the Uzbek provinces was voted as interim leader of the Provisional Government.

The Provisional Government ended in 1991, when the governor assumed full control of the nation and crowned himself Khan of Kokand as Nasr I, and declaring independence of the Soviet Union. Assuming a socialist government due to its proximity to Socialist Siberia and the high leftist tendencies of the Provisional Government, the Khanate was easily consolidated on its territory.

The new government promised to run a referendum on whether the Provisional Council of Kokand should stay in power - renamed the Kokand Soviet - or whether the country became an absolute monarchy or a direct democracy. The referendum, finished in August 15 of 1992, declared that the Kokand Soviet had a 99.5% approval rating.

The Khanate then remained in isolationism until late 2010, when it established diplomatic relationships with Bukhara and Khiva.

Geography[]

The Khanate of Kokand occupies the Ferghona Valley and territories from former Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

Administrative Divisions[]

The Kokand Soviet divided the Khanate in three regions: Ferghona (the territories in former Uzbekistan), Batken (the territories in former Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan), and the Capital District, Kokand.

Demographics[]

The majority of the population is Uzbek, with huge Tajik and Kyrgyz minorities.
