He served as the senior United States Senator from Arizona from 1987 to 2000 before being sworn in as Jimi Hendrix's Vice President on January 20, 2001, after Dole refused to run again citing his age as a reason. On May 6, 2002, he announced his candidacy for President. He dominated the GOP nomination, becoming presumptive nominee by January 2004. He won in a landslide against Al Gore and his VP.

Presidency[]

First Term (2005 - 2009)[]

  • McCain got the Line Item Veto Amendment approved.
  • He continued Hendrix's policies in Iraq and Afghanistan, which were handled just as effectively.
  • During the war on drugs, and after FARC was crippled, Hugo Chavez was implicated when important documents were seized explicitly stating that he was funding the drug cartels as well as proof that he was aiding and abetting drug trafficking, he was overthrown in a brief war
  • He got a bill passed that would increase energy independence and encourage research in renewable fuels saying "America needs a declaration of energy independence if it is to survive in the 21st century as a beacon of liberty".
  • McCain's handling of Katrina earned him praise
  • The American Industries act earned Him praise for Keeping Jobs in America from going overseas.
  • The three wars were handled so well that McCain readily signed the Troop reduction Act on January 2008, reducing US presence in Venezuela by 60%, and soldiers would be withdrawn from Iraq and Afghanistan within a year, and all us military presence would be gone from Venezuela by August 2010. These conflicts would be handled by Colombia/Brazil, Saudi Arabia/Kuwait and Pakistan respectively.
  • By the end of the first term, McCain reported that the USA had a Trillion Dollar surplus, and also announced that the foreign deficits will be completely paid off by 2010.

2008 Presidential Election[]

This was the first election with Puerto Rico involved.

McCain and Ron Paul sealed the nomination at Iowa after learning that they would face no opposition.

McCain and Paul faced off against Dennis Kucinich, who was crucified by the media for being an "appeaser" and was called "Dennis the Menace" for months by the right wing media, as well as his statement that Hugo Chavez was a "great man". Many analysts say Kucinich never stood a chance and would have been crushed in the elections anyway. They were right, as he only got 3 electoral votes and a popular vote of 30%. This was considered one of the biggest landslides in American history

Second Term (2009 - present)[]

  • McCain was reinaugurated on January 20 2009.
  • An amendment was approved, moving the inauguration date to November 30, in an attempt to streamline the presidential system.
  • McCain signed the Government Accountability Act (in light of the Blagojevich scandal) which imposed more severe penalties for corruption and abuse of office as well as any elected official on the federal level having to produce a full account of their expenses. Lobbyists would also have their powers reduced as well.
  • The first soldiers come home from Venezuela.
  • The last troops from Iraq arrived on February 1 after the elections per the agreement.
