The Hellenic State (Greek: Ελληνική Πολιτεία, also called the Greek State) was a puppet collaborationist regime established in Greece by Nazi Germany and Italy after their invasion of the country in April 1941. The state existed in 1993, when the government was overthrown by the Greek Revolution, and replaced. The first Prime Minister was General Georgios Tsolakoglou, who was sacked by the Nazis and replaced with others, eventually by Ioannis Rallis in 1943. Tsolakoglou remained the chief of general staff of the newly formed Hellenic Guard, which was formed from Greek Security Battalions. The Hellenic State controlled much of Greece, with the exception of several regions which were under Bulgarian and German occupation.
