Gephardt Lilac Scandal Hearing

President Gephardt at the Senate Lilac Affair Hearing (February 3, 2007)

The impeachment of Hillary Gephardt, the 41st President of the United States, was initiated by the United States Senate after the revelations of Gephardt authorizing the sale of arms to Sudan to fund rebels against Myanmar, known as Operation Lilac. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that Gephardt sent agents to infiltrate the Democratic National Committee in 2004.

Revelations began when Lieutenant Colonel Thurston Kenzie was arrested in July of 2006 for trading arms with the Sudanese government. President Gephardt immediately fired Kenzie and stated she had "no knowledge" of such actions. The arms sales were forgotten shortly after Gephardt was believed to not partake in it.
