Subnational Government-in-Exile Fourteenth Dalai Lama Formerly a member state of India, Tibet was occupied and annexed by the Sino-Japanese Empire during the Asia-Pacific War. India has never recognised the annexation, and the Indian Parliament still appoints Tibetan representatives.
